Vankleek Hill and District Nature SocietyThe society was formed in 1977 by a group of individuals who had a passion about bird watching and issues surrounding nature and the environment. At that time the overall objective was educating the youth of tomorrow about the environment and nature through various activities such as bird watching, guest speaker presentations and activities that protect the environment. The motto of the Society is "CONSERVATION THROUGH EDUCATION". The Society is a member of Ontario Nature and participates in Christmas Bird Counts a joint Birds Canada - National Audubon Society project. |

The VKHDNS has participated in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for 45 years. This year we are conducting our count on Sunday Dec 15th. Participants will be surveying a 24-km diameter circle surrounding the town of VKH. For those who are interested, you may join a team that will be surveying a sector in the circle or you may survey your yard birds if your residence is within the circle.
Keep note that the number and species of birds on this particular day are used for scientific purposes in evaluating migration routes and population status. The Audubon CBC has been conducted since 1900 in North, Central and South America and is the longest running citizen science program in the world!!
Visit the Birds Canada website at www.birdscanada.org and the Audubon site at www.audubon.org for more information.
As for our local counts the link to view the map is found below with corresponding dates and circle code.
